Datos Climáticos Históricos para las regiones Españolas
Our work translates the global data base of the Climate Research Unit from the University of East Anglia (http://www.cru.uea.ac.uk/), and known as CRU TS 2.1, in regional data for Spain. We transform them at two regional levels, autonomous regions (Comunidades Autónomas, NUTS 2) and provinces (NUTS 3). The original data base, in grid form, is not suitable for social scientists and historians. On the one hand, they are not used to managing this kind of data structure related to the technology of Geographical Information Systems (GIS). On the other hand, and more importantly, GIS data in grid form cannot be directly combined with the data usually available. Hence, thanks to this transformation, it is possible to perform a double task. We can compare this data base directly with statistics from meteorological stations and examine the consistency between data sources. On the other hand, we can combine the transformed data base with demographic and socioeconomic data normally available in formats that depend on the administrative and political structure of a country.
