AIMS, SCOPE AND PROCEDURES

Presentation
  • Investigaciones de Historia Económica (IHE) is devoted to original, high-quality research articles on Economic History and History of Economic Thought. Its first issue was published in January, 2005.

  • IHE is published by the Spanish Economic History Association three times a year (February, June and October).

  • All contributions submitted to Investigaciones de Historia Económica are considered on the understanding that they are unpublished. Manuscripts may be submitted in Spanish, English or Portuguese, but will only be published in Spanish or English. Comments on works that have appeared in the journal, research notes and review articles will be also welcome. The journal has a correspondence section (Forum - Letters to the Editor) on its web page (http://www.elsevier.es/ihe).
  • All manuscripts are acknowledged within 15 days of receipt. The Editorial Board, in the light of referees’ reports, take a decision about its publication within 5 months. The acceptance for publication usually depend on the introduction of the modifications that the Editorial Board consider appropriate according to referees’ comments.

  • Articles are rigorously double-blind peer reviewed by two external referees, which will be three in the event of a tie between the first two. Articles which include specialized tools and methods will be assessed by a “method” referee. In addition, one of the members of the Editorial Board works as an editor for each of the manuscripts received. Referees’ reports consist of a three-section form. In section one (“Global evaluation”), reviewers assess whether the article may be accepted without revisions, with minor or major revisions (both of content and format), or if it should be rejected. In section two (“Contributions”), referees are asked to evaluate the article in terms of: 1) The importance of contributions to international historiography; 2) The importance of contributions to Spanish historiography; 3) The significance of contributions to an interesting debate; 4) Usefulness for teaching purposes; 5) Innovation of methodology; 6) The use of new research sources or new interpretations of documentary materials already known; and 7) Adds nothing relevant in the mentioned ways. Finally, in the third section (“Report”) reviewers are asked to add any suggestions and comments they consider appropriate about the article’s main contributions and weakness.
  • All authors will receive a final report from the Editorial Board informing of the acceptance por publication, acceptance conditioned to the introduction of the modifications suggested by referees, or rejection. If publication is dependent on revision, anonymous referees’ reports are sent together with the suggestions of the Editorial Board. Detailed information on the suggestions of the referees and the Board are also provided if the article is rejected.
  • The contents of each issue are approved by the Editorial Board following the Editor’s proposals.
  •  A complete list of the reviewers that have collaborated with Investigaciones de Historia Económica over the last year is published in that year’s last issue. Acknowledgments from IHE are also included.
  • Every year, Investigaciones de Historia Económica publishes its statistics concerning received, evaluated and rejected articles, together with the rejection rate of the refereed articles.
